AVC has no restriction on living arrangements and instead considers the personal needs of each volunteer. One may freely choose to live with a host family, rent ones own apartment, or stay with family/friends.
In order to truly immerse yourself into life in Armenia and gain every bit from your experience, it is highly encouraged that you live with a host family during your service. By living with a host family, volunteers truly get a better understanding of local culture and everyday family life. AVC can arrange a home stay for you with a carefully selected and pre-screened local family, who will provide you with room and board. For an extra cost, host families can provide you with other services such as food provision and laundry. The home stay option is recommended to all volunteers, specifically those who are not fluent in Armenian, as it provides a means for you to quickly improve your language skills.
If you opt to live on your own, AVC does not take responsibility for finding you an apartment. However, we can provide you with a list of contacts that will aid you in your search. This option is generally more expensive, however many volunteers do choose independent housing.
