AVC volunteers choose the type of living arrangement best suited to their needs: living with a host family, renting an apartment, or staying with family or friends. Those who live with a local family during their service maximize their experience by an immersion in everyday Armenian life. Volunteers gain a deeper understanding of local culture and family life in Armenia by staying with a host family. AVC can arrange a home stay with a carefully selected and pre-screened family who will provide a room and breakfast. For an additional amount, host families can provide other services, such as extra meals and laundry. We recommend the home stay option for all volunteers - especially those not fluent in Armenian, as it provides a means of quickly improving one’s language skills. AVC does not take responsibility for finding apartments for those who wish to rent. We can, however, provide a list of contacts that will aid in your search. Although this option is generally more expensive, many volunteers do choose independent housing. |
